Solve match-3 puzzles to restore a neglected garden to its former splendor!
This is the first hit from Playrix’s Scapes™ series. Gardenscapes is a Match-3 puzzle where you swap and sweep your way through increasingly challenging levels.
The story centers around Austin, a butler who is in charge of restoring a mansion’s neglected gardens. Places are going to be in need of major repairs and landscapes need to be restored to their former glory. How would you get things moving? It’s by completing puzzle stages.
Puzzles are match-3 grids where you align 3 or more of a token type to clear them from the board. Board objectives are typically collect X number of items or retrieve Y objects from the level. New puzzle types and rules are introduced as you go further into the game. You’re given a limited number of moves to meet what a stage demands, so you’ll be reliant on combos to do more on a single turn.
What is a match-3 game without forming power-ups on your quest to clear a level? You can form Power-ups when you match 4 or more items. They come in the form of Firecrackers, Bombs, Dynamites, and TNTs that help you clear the board of tokens. Setting off 2 or more of these items at once creates combos. These will help charge up a special gauge that when full, lets you unleash Rainbow Blast. This clears all pieces of the same type from the game.
Winning levels earn you an action point, which is used to either clean an area, remove unsightly articles, or choose a new fixture to breathe new life into that part of the mansion you’re working on. Completing all actions results in clearing a Day, where you can move to another portion of the gardens afterward. There are minigames found at random points in the story. These involve pulling the right keys to clear obstacles and guide Austin out of trouble.
To conclude, Gardenscapes offers many of the elements found in other match-3 games but keeps you on your toes with surprisingly unique mechanics.
